Music recognition app Shazam has unveiled a new hub within its app, allowing music fans to discover personalized live music events within their area.
The new feature, called ‘Concerts’, makes use of users’ Shazam history to deliver curated event recommendations. This provides users the ability to browse, search, and filter by artist, date, location and explore trending concerts all in one app.
In addition to event discovery, Shazam offers users the ability to save and revisit events. According to Apple’s Support page, the app also facilitates setting reminders for upcoming shows and provides notifications for exclusive content shared by artists post-performance, including set lists, tour photos, and more.
The Concerts feature also lets fans discover exclusive content from select artists. This includes a range of offers such as brand new Watch faces and wallpapers available for download, behind-the-scenes videos, tour photos, and set lists.
Shazam said the latest launch marks the culmination of a series of concert discovery features introduced by Shazam this year across iOS, Maps and Apple Music.
The company first introduced concert discovery features to its platform in March 2022. At the time, Shazam said the new feature uses concert information from event recommendation platform Bandsintown.
The new Shazam Concerts tab and concert discovery features are also powered by concert listings and data from Bandsintown. (Artists and venues must first list shows on Bandsintown before they’re listed on Shazam).
For iOS users, the introduction of iOS 17 now enables staying updated on upcoming concerts from touring artists directly from Spotlight Search, offering quick access to ticket information, venue details, and more through Shazam’s concert pages.
Maps users can explore a selection of curated Apple Music Guides highlighting venues for live music experiences worldwide.
Apple Music subscribers will also benefit from the ‘Set Lists’ feature, providing insights into major tours. This feature allows fans to listen to set lists and gain production insights, as well as browse upcoming shows in their area through Shazam’s concert discovery module.
The Concerts feature is now available on the iOS app, with Android users set to receive this update soon. Additionally, with iOS 17, upcoming concerts in Spotlight Search will become available to users.
Shazam surpassed 70 billion song recognitions as of August 2022.
The new Concerts feature comes as Shazam continues to roll out new tools to help users identify songs. Back in June, the platform unveiled a feature that lets users identify songs on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other apps by turning on the ‘Auto Shazam’ feature.
Shazam has also helped Apple Music in identifying tracks in DJ mixes to make sure that rightsholders get paid.
Shazam was acquired by Apple for $400 million in 2018.
