Legendary artist Tina Turner has passed away, aged 83.
According to an official statement issued by her representatives on Wednesday (May 24), “Tina Turner, the “Queen of Rock’n Roll” has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland”.
The statement added: “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
A statement published on the superstar’s Instagram page reads: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.
The statement added: “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA. She became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue.
Tina Turner emerged as a solo artist in the early Eighties with worldwide hit albums such as Private Dancer, Break Every Rule and Foreign Affair and hit singles including What’s Love Got To Do With It, Private Dancer, We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome), Typical Male, I Don’t Wanna Fight, The Best and GoldenEye.
Turner has sold more than 180 million albums, received 12 Grammy Awards, has been inducted twice into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame, was the first black artist and the first female artist to feature on the cover of Rolling Stone, and was awarded the Légion d’honneur by the French Government.
Her life has been immortalized in at least three documentaries, including HBO’s 2021 production Tina. Her story was also featured in the 1993 film drama What’s Love Got To Do With It and in the stage musical Tina: The Tina Turner Musical which received a Tony Award and an Olivier Award.Music Business Worldwide

Tina Turner´s solo works comprise ten studio albums, two live albums, two soundtracks, and five compilations, which together have sold over 100 million records.
Warner Music continues to be her record company.
