Last summer we learnt that Warner Music Group (WMG) veteran Dan Chalmers (pictured) had been poached to run YouTube Music in EMEA.
Today, YouTube, which claims 2 billion monthly logged in users, has made the news official: Chalmers has been named Director of YouTube Music in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Chalmers has over 20 years of music industry experience and was previously President of ADA – Warner’s independent services and distribution arm – in the UK. He was also in charge of two UK-based Warner imprints, East West and Rhino Records.
In the new role, Chalmers will be responsible for running YouTube’s Music business in EMEA and will report to the Head of YouTube in EMEA, Cécile Frot-Coutaz.
Chalmers’ high-profile appointment to run EMEA for YouTube Music follows the platform’s hiring of another respected ex-WMG exec, Stephen Bryan, who joined YouTube as Head of Label Relations from SoundCloud in 2017.
“YouTube is the most powerful promotion platform on the planet and has become an integral part of the artist’s journey and narrative within the music industry.”
