New York-based music and entertainment investment firm Influence Media Partners has acquired a portfolio of copyrights from the catalog of Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels.
This acquisition follows last month’s news of the company’s deal to buy copyrights from the catalog of Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum songwriter Ali Tamposi.
Influence Media Partners launched a fund in March to invest in what it described as “award-winning catalogs of some of music’s most influential female music creators”.
The fund, co-founded with Municipal Employment Retirement System (“MERS of Michigan”), carries an initial value of up to $100 million in investable capital.
The deal with Michaels includes a portfolio of select copyrights from her catalog both as a solo artist and songwriter for other musicians.
This includes Michaels’ publishing stake in her own songs, such as Issues, I Miss You (with Clean Bandit), Carry Me (with Kygo) and Friends (with Justin Bieber & BloodPop).
The deal also includes songs performed by Selena Gomez (Bad Liar, Hands To Myself), Justin Bieber (Sorry), Ed Sheeran (Dive), Janelle Monae (Make Me Feel), Bryce Vine (Drew Barrymore), Nick Jonas (Close, with Tove Lo), Hailee Steinfeld (Love Myself), P!nk (Barbies), Linkin Park (Heavy, with Kiiara), Gwen Stefani (Used To Love You), Britney Spears (Do You Wanna Come Over?), Fifth Harmony (All In My Head [Flex] with Fetty Wap), Maroon 5 (Help Me Out) and more.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As a songwriter, Michaels has co-written 25 titles that have charted on the Billboard Hot 100, 14 of which have hit the Top 40.
In February 2021, Michaels signed a new publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group for future compositions.
In March, she received her second career Song of the Year nomination at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, and on April 30 released her full-length debut album Not In Chronological Order.
“Like Carole King, Sia and Bruno Mars before her, Julia Michaels belongs in the pantheon of great songwriters.”
