Concerts and festival promoter Goldenvoice on Tuesday (January 10) revealed the lineup of this year’s Coachella festival, with Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK and Frank Ocean headlining the annual event.
The 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will run on two consecutive weekends from April 14-16 and April 21-23 and pre-sales will start on Friday (January 13) at 11am PT.
Bad Bunny, fresh from grossing US $435.38 million from his World’s Hottest Tour in 2022, will headline the Coachella Fridays on April 14 and 21. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer was also the most streamed artist on Spotify and was Apple Music’s ‘Artist of the Year’ in 2022.
Other acts on those dates include Gorillaz, Burna Boy, The Chemical Brothers, Blondie and Becky G.
BLACKPINK will headline the Saturday shows on April 15 and 22, becoming the first K-Pop act to headline Coachella. The group first performed at Coachella in 2019.
The Saturday lineup also includes Rosalia, The Kid LAROI, Charlix XCX, Labrinth and Underworld.
Grammy-Award-winning American singer, songwriter and rapper Frank Ocean will headline Coachella Sundays on April 16 and 23. Bjork, Jackson Wang, Latto and Weyes Blood will also be performing on those dates.
Ocean was originally set to perform at Coachella in 2020, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was slated to headline the event alongside Rage Against the Machine and Travis Scott.
The artist first performed at the 2011 Coachella with Odd Future. He returned to the festival the following year with a solo set, promoting his Channel Orange album.
Meanwhile, Goldenvoice, owned by AEG Presents, also revealed that Calvin Harris will be reappearing in this year’s Coachella.
Last year’s Coachella was headlined by Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia, and The Weeknd. Other acts that performed last year were Phoebe Bridgers, Flume, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, Doja Cat, Joji and Maggi Rogers. Kanye West was set to headline the event, but cancelled at the last minute.
The 2022 Coachella followed a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and the Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau told Fox Los Angeles in April 2022 that the festival created about $704 million in economic activity and the local economy is predicted to have raked in $400 million in revenue from concertgoers.
Coachella’s promoters are set to benefit from the pent-up appetite for live music in the post-pandemic era.
Goldenvoice rival Live Nation in the third quarter of 2022 recorded its highest quarterly attendance on record.
“Fans around the world continue prioritizing their spend on live events, particularly concerts. We have not seen any pullback in demand, as on-sales, on-site spending, advertising and all other operating metrics continue showing strong year-on-year growth,” Live Nation President and CEO Michael Rapino said in November 2022.
For fans who won’t be able to attend the 2023 Coachella, YouTube will be livestreaming both weekends, with the platform returning as the exclusive livestream partner for the festival.
