Downtown Music Publishing has promoted Steve Markland to Senior Vice President, A&R in Nashville.
The announcement comes as the company celebrates a successful four years in Nashville with over twenty singles charting in the US and Canada.
Markland has led Downtown Nashville since its launch in February 2014, developing a roster covering songwriters, artists, and producers like Jillian Jacqueline, Andy Albert, Tony Esterly, Who is Fancy and Sara Haze.
The firm also represents writers Marc Beeson, Kendell Marvel, Kelly Archer, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, John Moreland and the recently announced John Prine.
Over the course of Downtown Nashville’s existence, deals have been signed with Big Yellow Dog (Maren Morris, Meghan Trainor, Josh Kear) and Major Bob Music, and multi-award winning songwriter and playwright Wayne Kirkpatrick.
Prior to joining Downtown, Markland served as VP of A&R, Nashville at Warner/Chappell Music since 2009.
In his new role, he will continue to report to Downtown CEO, Justin Kalifowitz and COO, Andrew Bergman, who said: “In just four short years, Steve has built an incredible foundation for Downtown in Nashville.
