Spotify has appointed Tom Connaughton as Head of Artist & Label Marketing for the UK, MBW has learned.
The news was confirmed in the past few hours via an internal memo sent by Spotify’s Head Of Creator Services, Troy Carter.
Connaughton will join Spotify next month after seven years with Vevo, where since 2016 he worked as SVP of Creative Content & Programming out of the firm’s New York office.
As SVP at Vevo, Connaughton headed up artist and label relationships across the US, UK and eleven different international markets.
The British exec will spend the first week of his new job at Spotify in New York, before moving permanently to London.
“I am confident that Tom will be a tremendous asset to Spotify.”

UK-based Spotify execs such as Chris Stoneman, Bryan Johnson and Will Hope will report to Connaughton, who will report to Carter.
In his message to staff, Carter praised Connaughton’s ‘proven track record of partnering with artists and their labels’ and his ability to ‘create, manage and execute artist marketing campaigns with a focus on innovative campaigns aimed at connecting artists with audiences and enabling fans to get more out of what they love’.
Added Carter: ‘I am confident that Tom will be a tremendous asset to Spotify.’
Said Connaughton in the internal email: ‘I’m really happy to be joining Spotify at such a pivotal moment. I’ve spent my career in music and technology, so to be joining the team that has reshaped the way the world consumes music feels like a privilege and is really exciting to me.’
He added: ‘Spotify is an incredible platform which now has a huge opportunity to provide a real home for artists and their teams, I can’t wait to get started.’
Prior to joining Vevo as VP, Content & Programming, UK in 2011, Connaughton held senior positions at MySpace and Sony Music.
Spotify consolidated its artist and label marketing teams at the start of this year, creating the newly-unified Artist & Label Marketing division.
