Tuned Global teams with fitness brand Psycle London to develop home workout music streaming app

Music streaming technology specialist Tuned Global has partnered with UK-based Psycle London to power a playlist app for the home fitness brand’s 70+ instructors.

The app will essentially allow instructors to become their own virtual DJs, with the ability to create tailored playlists from an audio catalog of millions, including music from both major and independent artists.

Instructors will also have access to special features, including the ability to search tracks by BPM and add customizable crossfade. For users, the app allows for greater customization in their home workout, says Tuned Global.

The app is powered by Tuned Global’s white label streaming tech, which has been customized for the fitness industry.

MBW previously wrote about Tuned Global’s tech in September, when the company unveiled the UFC Ultimate Sound, the first-ever music streaming app for the mixed martial arts brand that connected UFC super-fans with fighters through curated playlists.

Tuned Global says that its proprietary content management system, Autotuned, will let Psycle London’s administrators customize the app in real-time from an editorial, catalog and user management perspective.

In addition, Tuned Global will manage Psycle’s music catalog ingestion and reporting to record labels and publishers.

Tuned Global says that it will also assist Psycle in licensing discussions with record labels and rights owners, to further expand its pool of content.

Today’s news marks a move that further integrates the home fitness and music streaming businesses, both of which have experienced a pandemic boom.

In the UK, where Psycle London is based, more than 155 million albums were bought or streamed in 2020, an increase of 8.2%, according to record labels’ association BPI.

Wellness app installs reached 1.2 billion in 2020, while the wider fitness industry meanwhile, is at an all-time high with total annual turnover estimated to be in the region of £1.9 billion.

Peloton, the exercise equipment and virtual gym class brand, reported that the number of people subscribing to its remote fitness classes reached roughly 1.1m in the quarter ended June 30, 2020.

In turn, the platform quickly made celebrities of instructors like Cody Rigsby, Peloton Cycling Director and, more recently, Vogue magazine profile subject.

In addition to its partnership with Pyscle London, Tuned Global has worked with companies such as Coca-Cola, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Line Music, Pizza Hut, Samsung, True Digital Group and others.
