B2B music streaming company Tuned Global has struck two new partnerships in the medical technology space.

According to a press release, ‘Medtech’ firms MediMusic and Nue Life Health will use Tuned Global’s music APIs to provide music streaming services to patients to help them get through certain medical treatments including memory care, pain management, PTSD and major depression.

The services provided to the two companies by Tuned Global include metadata, music content, and streaming service functionality through Tuned Global’s suite of APIs, as well as reporting to rightsholders, and a content management system to help curators manage playlists.

MediMusic, which has developed a technology that prescribes music as medicine to reduce pain and anxiety, plans to use custom therapeutic playlists for patients using Tuned Global’s tech to reduce resting heart rate, anxiety, and stress responses through biofeedback and machine learning.

MediMusic also uses music for pre/post operation, chronic pain, and dentistry, and during physical rehabilitation programs to improve patients’ motor response.

UK-based MediMusic recently secured $1.4 million in funding and was recently accepted into the Abbey Road Red accelerator program for music startups.

Nue Life Health, meanwhile, says that it offers “ketamine therapy” to treat PTSD and depression.  Nue Life Health has also created a companion app to allow patients in the US to interact with clinicians remotely. With Tuned Global’s technology, patients can access millions of licensed tracks.

According to a press release, “Music forms a valuable layer in this app-supported experience that guides patients through ketamine sessions in the comfort of their own homes, unlocking more potential transformation and healing.”

Founded in 2011, Tuned Global has previously worked on custom apps for the likes of Warner Music Group (on a custom Ed Sheeran app), and Universal Music Group and Pizza Hut, and its technology also powers the UFC Ultimate Sounds app in the US, and Deedo, a Pan-African streaming service in Europe and Africa.

The company is also active in the fitness industry. In April 2021 the company partnered with UK-based Psycle London to power a playlist app for the home fitness brand’s 70+ instructors

“Tuned Global is helping us implement our vision of revolutionizing the way we treat people in pain and living with dementia through music, so they can lead better and fuller lives.”

Gary Jones, MediMusic

“MediMusic has managed to digitally fingerprint the DNA of music so we can prescribe the right songs as medicine to ease anxiety and stress. You could say it’s a musical pharmaceutical,” said Gary Jones, Co-Founder & CEO of MediMusic.

Jones added: “Tuned Global is helping us implement our vision of revolutionizing the way we treat people in pain and living with dementia through music, so they can lead better and fuller lives. We’re grateful for this partnership and for the best-in-class technology and ideal music it provides us.”

“Tuned Global helped us get the catalog and administration we needed to bring commercial, high-caliber music into the Nue Life experience in a seamless and efficient manner.”

Demian M. Bellumio, Nue Life Health

“Our musicologist-curated and algorithmically programmed playlists form an essential part of Nue Life’s at-home treatment offerings. Tuned Global helped us get the catalog and administration we needed to bring commercial, high-caliber music into the Nue Life experience in a seamless and efficient manner,” says Demian M. Bellumio, Co-Founder of Nue Life Health.

“High-quality music delivered seamlessly is essential to the success of medical innovators like MediMusic and Nue Life Health, who depend on streaming music to support treatments.”

Con Raso, Tuned Global

Commenting on the latest partnerships, Tuned Global’s Managing Director, Con Raso, said: “High-quality music delivered seamlessly is essential to the success of medical innovators like MediMusic and Nue Life Health, who depend on streaming music to support treatments.”

Raso adds: “We are delighted to be unlocking more opportunities for new models that channel music’s power to impact and heal, and to be the trusted music partner to these important new treatment modalities.”

MBW has previously written about the use of music in the medical technology space.

Universal Music Group, for example, has been particularly active in this field. In September last year, UMG inked what it called a first-of-its-kind partnership with digital therapeutics company MedRhythms, to provide access to its catalog for the purpose of providing prescription music to patients.

And in June, the company was named an exclusive launch partner for an AI-driven music app for the care of people affected by dementia.
